Holiday wreath

So, I wanted to make a wreath and I really wanted it to have texture and softness.  I had a stick wreath already...wrapped it in white lights...then wrapped that with toole...then secured white loofahs to the front.  I love how it turned out, fun and fluffy.  Merry Christmas...and happy crafting.

My new piano

Found this 1895 Kimball upright piano on craigslist.  Loving it.  Still need to get it tuned, but I have completely remodeled it and I love it even more.  Kya is learning to play and I think it goes great in my living room.  Check out these before and after shots.

After Kitchen

I am finally finding time to post some pictures of my latest completed projects.  I have finished my kitchen remodel and I just love it.  I am a fan of Pottery Barn and so on my very little budget, I do my best.

We had put some leftover shower wall paneling up for the back splash in the kitchen.  I painted it with black paint and added some tile for detail.  I painted the walls a pale yellow.  I had some wainscoting  just sitting around, so cut it up and put in on the face of my lower cupboards.  I cut out the center of my upper cupboards and added some glass from some old windows I've collected.  Of course I frosted them, since they were a little difficult to clean completely.  This has completed my kitchen design and I love it.

The other day I was at DI...a place I try to frequent for their furniture and books.  I found this little treasure, an old school desk.  I thought it would be a great place for Kya to do her homework.  She love drawing and writing, so what better way to encourage her than to get her her own seat.
With some sanding and spray paint...its as good as new.

This is a look that I have been admiring for quite some time and finally with a music book I bought for $1 at DI, I decided to go for it in my craft room.  I love it!

Whenever I am at a store and walk by the pillow isle, I am always wanting to buy their cute pillows with fabulous textures.  However, knowing that I have a ton of pillows lying around my house and never wanting to pay more than $5 on much of any decor...I decided to cut up some fabric I had on hand and make a textured pillow myelf.  I think it turned out pretty cute.

Trying to solve a pet peeve problem of mine.  Shoes, shoes, shoes and nowhere to keep them nice.  My boots tend to always be on the floor stacked under all the rest of my families shoes getting dirty and scuffed up.  An old cupboard I got at DI of course, painted white...added a shelf and a tension rod and I have my very own boot storage.

Craft Room and Living Room

I've been up to a lot of projects lately...sometimes when my creative juices start to flow...I just can't stop it.  A few months back I organized my craft room a bit.  Nothing special here...but some fun and cheap organizational ideas.

This shelf used to be cupboards doors and a shelf.  Its now my ribbon holder as well.

Some old jars become some great "do-dad" holders.

A bunch of frames I had just sitting in the garage and a few $1 frames from DI.  Painted them all black, added some clips to the glass and leaning on the ledge heading down to our basement becomes the kids "art gallery".  Kya loves to draw me pictures and make "cards"...so this is how we display her artwork now.  I love it!

Remember these....I built these bookshelves out of old doors and paneling...but I got bored with them.

Found these spice cupboards at DI for $10.00...

With a little extra wood, I now have a country built in look.  I still have plans for the walls...changing the color again.  But I love my bookcases now.

New and Improved Blog

So I have been working on a lot of different projects and rather than clutter up my family blog with these posts...I have decided to turn this blog into my "creativity corner".  New posts coming soon.

Basement is done....wahoo!

Ok, finally the unveiling of our basement remodel. Its finally here. This (other than the kitchen of course) is probably the greatest change in the house. I am so glad that it is done, cause now we can live in it. Its been great to come down with the kids and play with them. I know Kya has loved the attention and play I'm giving her lately.
So I will give you a walk through tour with "Before and After" along the way. Its more fun to see the before and after right next to each other.

Even the kids are able to enjoy it now.
